The Buriti dress is made by the artisans of Barrerinhas, in the state of Maranhão, led by Ivonete Neves under the supervision of Raissa Colela. This dress takes two months to crochet. Since 2014, designer Lenny Niemeyer and creative director Telma Azevedo has been working with the communities using their knowledge of handicraft techniques such as weaving, macramé and crochet, as well as dyeing and using natural fibres such as caroá, wicker, carnauba and buriti.
