FLAVIA ARANHA
Chinil vest and trousers by Flavia Aranha
In collaboration with artisans from the state of Minas Gerais
Summer 2019
Weaving, natural dyeing
Organic cotton, silk
The hands that woven the Chinil vest are the guardians of the stories told by designer Flavia Aranha, bringing a handicraft that sustains, generates income, and inspires. The creation celebrates the partnership with Central Veredas, in the north-west of Minas Gerais, impacting over 300 women. Chinil is the traditional weaving technique preserved by the women of the region. The organza trousers are made from Brazilian silk, sourced from family farms in Maringá, in the Silk Valley, in the state of Paraná. It is dyed with ‘pau-brasil’ (redwood), provided by artisanal violin bow makers from the state of Espírito Santo, transforming leftover raw materials into vibrant pieces that pursue social justice, inspiration, and environmental conservation.
