Horse mane weaving, a centuries-old technique handed down from mother to daughter in rural villages such as Rari and Panimavida in Chile, inspired Silvia Furmanovich to create a special collection of earrings. Often described as ‘living treasures’, these women use strands from the horse’s mane along with vegetable fibres to enhance the durability of the creations. The end result is a beautiful sculpture, with years of tradition. In addition to working with artisans in Chile, Furmanovich’s high jewellery showcases a variety of traditional crafts such as lacquer and bamboo from Japan, miniature painting from India and marquetry from Brazil.
