A signatory to the UN Global Pact, Irá Salles has been committed to handicrafts, preserving artisanal techniques and generating income for women in local communities. The Mariana bag is made from a straw basket made in the Tramas Maranhenses community, then covered with a crocheted net in the São Marcos community in Salvador, and finished in Irá Salles’ atelier. Since launching her brand in 1999 in Salvador (Bahia), Irá Salles has valued the handmade and the preserving manual techniques, generating income for women in local communities. Her creations are part of the collection of the Tassen Museum of Bags and Purses in Amsterdam.
