This edition of Brazil: Creating Fashion for Tomorrow, A Chain of Women is dedicated to highlighting the pivotal role of women in the fashion industry, featuring a curated selection of brands and initiatives led by talented Brazilian women. The exhibition strives to illuminate issues pertaining to women in fashion and the broader economy; highlighting the creativity, quality, and exquisite expertise demonstrated by both creators and executors.

Beyond showcasing fashion, the emphasis is on women who actively drive sustainable fashion forward, contribute to female empowerment and foster sisterhood by collaborating with fellow women, especially those in low-income communities aiming to enhance living conditions for hundreds of families.

Among the brands showcasing include Catarina Mina with communities in the state of Ceará, Farm Rio with the Yawanawá indigenous craftswomen, Lenny Niemeyer, with its partnership with the Barreirinhas Craftswomen's Association (Maranhão), Malwee in collaboration with women from Elas Fazem Nós collective (Santa Catarina), Dayana Molina’s Nalimo, at the forefront of indigenous representation in Brazil, PatBo and its embroiderers' school, alongwith Renata Brenha and Flavia Aranha’s various initiatives.

Material sustainability and innovation in Brazil will be both physically displayed and digitally communicated throughout the exhibition. In partnership with Apex, the exhibition highlights alternative production methods and material sources developed by women. Notably all companies presenting pieces are aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, which aims to reduce poverty, eradicate hunger, ensure equitable and quality education, and promote gender equality, thereby empowering women and girls.

Furthermore Malwee, powering this year’s edition, will also be displaying pieces crafted from Fio do Futuro (Thread of the Future), a material first launched in 2022 made up of 85% different types of fibres from used and shredded clothes, that are collected in partnership with the Red Cross. This material integrates and connects the exhibition' scenography, and is used in the designs showcased at BCFT 2024 as result of a collaboration with women from the Elas Fazem Nós collective, part of the Malwee Institute's Menos Resíduo, Mais Renda (Less Waste, More Income) programme, to give new meaning to textile waste. These women are masters of handicraft techniques such as macrame and crochet.

Gabriela Rizzo, CEO of the Malwee Group shared: “We are very happy to present, in a creative and innovative way, a Brazilian solution that addresses the main challenge the fashion industry faces today: the circular economy. Nowadays, 92 million tons of textile are wasted per year in the world, with the potential to reach more than 130 million tons in 2030. Only 12% of this volume ends up being recycled and only 1% is recovered of fibres for the production of new clothing items. The Thread of the Future is an innovative and revolutionary raw material. It is very relevant to launch a Malwee collection based on a circular fashion solution at Brazil Creating Fashion for Tomorrow, part of London Fashion Week."

As with BCFT’s 2023 edition, the 2024 exhibition will host panel discussions, this year, covering the role that women play in addressing the Sustainable Development Goals and making the fashion industry more responsible towards people and the planet.
